- Network Licensing has been enhanced to allow up to 1024 computers to use the same key (or the same certificate if used with hardware-locked keys) at one time.
- The requirement that all client copies of your software must be the exact same file as the one on the server has been removed. The Allow Client and Server files to be different check box has been added to the Network Licensing options section of the interface to manage this new feature.
- We found that the WMI test portion of the SMART option test could cause significant delays in the startup of protected programs, so the Disable SMART WMI Test check box has been added where the other miscellaneous options are set in the interface.
- There is a new method that antivirus companies can use to reduce false positives for programs that are protected with this latest version of SoftwarePassport. If you get reports of your program being flagged, inform the antivirus company to contact us directly at support@siliconrealms.com to receive information about this new method.
There are quite a few other changes in Version 8, as well as more details on the above features, in the Revision History available in the SoftwarePassport User Guide and in the Armadillo Help file.
Tech Tip:
Sometimes even the best registration systems miss. You have provided someone with a permanent registration code, then find out that they were using a stolen credit card; someone gets a registration and posts it on the Internet; etc. The Stolen Codes database provides a means of protecting yourself from these mishaps; a stolen registration code does not have to mean all your work is lost. By entering it in the database (under the Protection menu), these codes can be selectively invalidated, without affecting your legitimate users.
To enter a code into the database, just list it with a comment. Anyone currently using it will find that it's invalid in all future versions, and future cracker-wannabes using the code will discover that it fails to work.
Note that the code you enter must be exactly the same as the one issued. Since SoftwarePassport/Armadillo will not generate the same code on a different day, you should use the Key Log to find the code that you wish to invalidate, if you do not already know it.
